Keswick Kitchen & Mudroom
PROJECT: Architecture & Construction
DESCRIPTION: Residential Renovation
Our clients wanted a room dedicated to entertaining – and they wanted that room to be the kitchen. The requirements were plenty of floor and counter space, an uncluttered look, and great light. An adjacent bar and mudroom complete the picture.
The existing kitchen left us with little to work with. For example, the center of the room was dominated by a structural column and the refrigerator was in the hallway. To accommodate two cooks and the inevitable friends and family, we design large aisles between the cabinetry and long broad countertops.
We did as much local sourcing as possible: the reclaimed oak floors are from Stuarts Draft and the Alberene soapstone counters come from Schuyler. This beautiful variety of soapstone is only found in one place in the world…our own Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains.
