| Dudley Mountain Custom Home Build
PROJECT: Architecture & Construction
DESCRIPTION: Residential Renovation
Our clients’ goal was to move from the city and create a family compound in the countryside. With grandchildren in the future, the open space and the tranquility of the countryside was the way to go. This property in the Crozet area has it all from rolling pastures to dramatic mountain views. Alloy architects partnered with a local high-end builder to bring the clients’ wishes to life.
Strategic control of perspective was an important tool for creating a connection between the architecture and landscape. Upon approaching up the driveway, the views become obscured by the home. The front porch which sits nestled into the larger volume of the home so that moving through the front door further narrows the view. The perspective change continues as one moves through the entry room, only to emerge into the vaulted living room where a wall of windows reveals expansive views of the sky and mountains.
The project utilizes a simple materials palette, allowing the natural surroundings to take center stage. It’s a testament to the idea that the beauty of the landscape should speak for itself and be a backdrop for a living space that’s deeply connected to the environment.
