We’re all about looping pedals around here. From Andrew Bird to Zoe Keating, many of the staff’s fave musicians dabble in the world of tech to create sound beyond the confines of traditional music. And one of our new obsessions, the crazy-talented, ukulele-wielding Merrill Garbus of the tUnE-yArDs, is no stranger to the loop. Garbus begins by layering nonsensical, almost tribal gibberish until it becomes a harmonic background on which to bellow, yodel, scream, and, on occasion, sing. The result is strange and wonderful and quite hard to pin down. Since I’m at a loss for an apt label to affix, I’ll leave a link instead: “BIZNESS”
