This project focuses on improving a fractured and inefficient kitchen area. The original kitchen was an ill considered space broken up by too many access points and substandard work and storage space. By clearing out the existing kitchen and eliminating an island and two access points, the re-design creates an efficient workspace that gracefully accommodates the messiness of daily life with young kids.
In the new kitchen, movement is focused on cooking rather than circulation through the kitchen. Attention is given to creating ample under counter storage and a restrained, yet warm material palette. Soapstone countertops over white cabinets serve as a background, while an accent wall composed of five contrasting hardwood veneers and aluminum edging anchors the kitchen and brings a playful warmth to the space.
